Snell, Bertrand Hollis

Snell, Bertrand Hollis (1870–1958)

US Democrat representative. In the US House of Representatives for New York 1915–39, he chaired the House Rules Committee in the 1920s, often frustrating the Democrats. As minority leader during the 1930s, he fought against the New Deal.

He was born in Colton, New York. A graduate of Amherst College, he started working as a lumberjack in 1894, becoming the owner of his own lumber company by 1904, before diversifying into other businesses.
