Snoqualmie

River flowing through west-central Washington, USA; length 72 km/45 mi. It is formed by headstreams near the city of Snoqualmie (population (1990) 1,500), 43 km/27 mi east of Seattle, in the eastern Cascade Range, and merges with the Skykomish River to form the Snohomish River, flowing out through Everett to Puget Sound.

Snoqualmie Falls, just northwest of Snoqualmie, drops 82 m/270 ft, and has an early underground power-generating facility (1898). In the 1980s the falls provided a backdrop for the cult television series Twin Peaks, which was filmed largely in Snoqualmie and in North Bend, to the southeast.

The Snoqualmie Pass area, in the Mount Baker–Snoqualmie National Forest, is one of Washington's most popular ski resorts.
