Soffel, Doris (1948– )

German mezzo-soprano. She studied with Marianne Schech in Munich, and sang in Das Liebesverbot at the 1972 Bayreuth Youth Festival. She sang with the Stuttgart Opera from 1973, and appeared as Waltraute at the 1976 Bayreuth Festival. She made her London debut in 1983 at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Sextus in La Clemenza di Tito, and returned as Orlofsky. Between 1986 and 1991 she sang with the Munich Opera, in the premieres of Troades by Reimann, and Penderecki's Ubu Rex. Her concert repertory included Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde and Beethoven's Missa Solemnis.
