Solano County

County in north-central California, bordered to the southwest by the Carquinez Strait, to the south by Suisun Bay, and to the southeast by the Sacramento River, and extending into low foothills in the west; area 2,160 sq km/834 sq mi; population (1990) 340,400. Its capital is Fairfield. Most of the county is rich Sacramento Valley agricultural land, producing a wide variety of crops and livestock; industry is concentrated in the southern ports.

Vallejo, Benicia, Dixon, and Vacaville are other important cities.
