Solemn League and Covenant

Alliance between the Scots and English Parliamentarians on 25 September 1643 during the English Civil War; both sides agreed to abolish episcopacy and introduce Presbyterianism. In return for £30,000, the Scots provided another army against Charles I, and their cavalry was instrumental in the royalist defeat at Marston Moor in 1644.
