Solent, the

Channel between the coast of Hampshire, southern England, and the Isle of Wight. It is a yachting centre.

The Solent is 27 km/17 mi long and 1.6–8 km/1–5 mi wide. Spithead is within the Solent, at the eastern end, between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight (Rye area).
