Soler, Antonio (1729–1783)

Spanish organist and composer. He wrote much church music as well as organ concerti and incidental music for plays; but his most celebrated works are probably his many harpsichord sonatas, distinguished successors to those of Domenico Scarlatti, with whom he probably studied 1752–57.

A chorister at Montserrat, he was maestro di cappella at Lleida Cathedral and entered the Escorial monastery in 1752, becoming organist and choirmaster there the following year. His treatise Llave de la Modulación was published in 1762.
