Solié, Jean-Pierre (1755–1812)

French singer, cellist, and composer. A chorister at Nîmes Cathedral, he learnt the cello from his father and played in local theatres. He made his debut as a singer in 1778, and from 1787 was at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, rising to become its leading baritone. Many of Méhul's roles were written for him. From about 1790 he also had success as an opera composer.

33 opéras-comiques, for example Jean et Geneviève (1792), Le Jockey (1796), Le Secret, Le Chapitre second (1799), Mademoiselle de Guise, Le Diable à quatre (1809), Les Ménestrels (1811).
