solid-state circuit

Electronic circuit in which all the components (resistors, capacitors, transistors, and diodes) and interconnections are made at the same time, and by the same processes, in or on one piece of single-crystal silicon. The small size of this construction accounts for its widespread use in all areas of electronics. See intergrated circuit.
