Solon

Solon (c. 638–c. 558 BC)

Athenian statesman. As one of the chief magistrates about 594 BC, he carried out the cancellation of all debts from which land or liberty was the security and the revision of the constitution that laid the foundations of Athenian democracy. He was one of the Seven Sages of Greece.

Solon

City in northeastern Ohio, 24 km/15 mi east of Cleveland, of which it is a commuter suburb; population (1990) 18,500. Frozen foods, mining equipment, sporting goods, and clothing are among local products.

It was founded in about 1820 and named after the ancient Greek lawgiver.

And true riches seem to consist in these; and the acquisition of those possessions which are necessary for a happy life is not infinite; though Solon says otherwise in this verse:
This mythical tale, of which the subject was a history of the wars of the Athenians against the Island of Atlantis, is supposed to be founded upon an unfinished poem of Solon, to which it would have stood in the same relation as the writings of the logographers to the poems of Homer.
