Somary, Johannes (1935– )

Swiss-born US conductor. He sat Yale and made his debut in New York, in 1960. He conducted orchestras and choral societies in New York. He was a guest conductor with the English Chamber Orchestra in London (1968–79), the Royal Philharmonic, and the Brno State Philharmonic Orchestra. He recorded the Messiah, the St Matthew Passion, the Four Seasons, and a series of Handel operas (including Sosarme, in 1994).
