Somers, George (1554–1610)
| English adventurer, born in Lyme Regis, Dorset, England. A founder of the Virginia Company in 1606, he was wrecked on his way to Virginia in 1609, when his ship Sea Venture grounded on the Bermudas. Somers took possession of the Bermudas, where he established a colony in 1610, but died soon afterwards. |
