Somervell, Brehon Burke

Somervell, Brehon Burke (1892–1955)

US soldier and businessman. He graduated from West Point in 1914, and as an army engineer worked on various projects including some in France during World War I. As chief of the Works Progress Administration in New York City 1936–40, he supervised the construction of La Guardia airport, and during World War II he headed the army's supply services. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas.
