Sommer, Hans (1837–1922)

German composer. He studied at Göttingen University where he became a professor of physics. In 1875 he became director of the Technical High School at Brunswick; he settled in Berlin in 1885, at Weimar in 1888, and in 1898 returned to Brunswick. He had been composing as an amateur since before 1865, when he produced his first opera.

Der Nachtwächter (1865), Loreley (1891), Saint-Foix, Der Meermann, Augustin, Münchhausen, Rübezahl (1904), Riquet mit dem Schopf (1907) and Der Waldschratt (1912).

Vocal
