Song Da

Song Da

River of China and northern Vietnam; length 800 km/497 mi. It rises in Yunnan province (China) and flows southeast, parallel to the Song Huong (Red River) before joining with it near Songtay in northern Vietnam. The river has been dammed at Hoa Binh, creating the 200 km/124 mi long Song Da reservoir, the largest in Vietnam. Production of hydroelectricity began in 1994.
