Songhua

River in northeast China, which joins the Amur River on the Russian frontier; length 2,308 km/1,433 mi.

The Songhua rises near the North Korean frontier in the Changbai Mountains. It is joined by the River Nen in its upper reaches, and then flows northeast to join the Amur River at Tongjiang, in Heilongjiang, southwest of the Amur's confluence with the Ussuri. A hydroelectric dam has been built on the river south of Jilin, creating the Songhua Reservoir.
