Sonoma County

County in northwestern California, on the Pacific Ocean; area 4,154 sq km/1,604 sq mi; population (1990) 388,200. Its capital is Santa Rosa. It has mineral and hot springs, dairy farms, a poultry industry and apple orchards, but is becoming increasingly urban, with industrial centres at Santa Rosa, Petaluma, and Healdsburg. Together with neighbouring Napa County, it forms the best-known US winemaking region. Tourism is central to the economy.

Wineries and vineyards

The major wineries and vineyards are along the Sonoma Creek, in the Sonoma Valley (Valley of the Moon), from Sonoma to Glen Ellen, as well as further north, near Healdsburg.
