Soong, T V (or Tse-Ven) (1894-1971)

Chinese nationalist financier and politician. He was finance minister of the nationalist government at Guangzhou (Canton) 1925-27 and at Nanjing 1928 to 1933. He westernized Chinese finances, standardized the Chinese currency, and founded the Bank of China in 1936. Soong was foreign minister from 1942-45. In 1949, following the Communist revolution, he went to the USA.

Born in Shanghai, he was the son of Charles Jones Soong (died 1927), a successful US-educated trader and Methodist missionary who was the father of Soong Ching-ling (Sung Quingling). He studied at Harvard and Columbia universities, in the USA.

His sister, Soong Mei-ling (Song Meiling, born 1897), married Jiang Jie Shi (Chiang Kai-shek) in 1927.
