Scribe

Member of an ancient Jewish group of biblical scholars, both priests and laypersons, who studied the books of Moses and sat in the Sanhedrin (supreme court). In the New Testament they are associated with the Pharisees. Later, they are the copyists of Hebrew scripture.

The final section (Pentateuch and Theology) has three essays: Probstle argues for a tiqqun sopherim in Gen 18:22 (English); Alomia surveys the theme of the firstborn in the Old Testament and the ancient Near East (Spanish); and Pfandl interprets the Old Testament asylum institution comparatively and theologically (English).
Fuller analyzes a tigqun sopherim of Zech 2:12, showing that the tiqqun "my eye" may not be older than the euphemism "his eye" (MT).
