Sor, (Joseph) Fernando (Macari) (1778–1839)

Spanish guitarist and composer. He was educated at the Escolanía at Montserrat, produced his first opera at the age of 19, then went to Paris and in about 1815 went to London, where he played and taught the guitar, returning to Paris in 1823. He wrote an important guitar tutor, which was published in 1830.

Telemaco nell' isola di Calipso (1797); eight ballets, including Cendrillon (1822), successful in London, Paris, and Moscow.
