Sorvino, Mira

    0.03 sec.

Sorvino, Mira (1969– )

US film actor. The Italian-American character actor, having featured in the low-budget film Amongst Friends (1993), was cast in 1994 in Robert Redford's Quiz Show and the independent film Barcelona. Two high-profile roles followed in 1995; in the television miniseries The Buccaneers, adapted from the Edith Wharton novel, she played a Brazilian beauty married to an impoverished English gentleman, and she played a prostitute in Woody Allen's romantic comedy Mighty Aphrodite, a role for which she earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In her short career she has displayed great versatility, adopting numerous accents, and alternating comic and dramatic roles, from the farce of Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997) to the weighty Joan of Arc (1999).

Her father is the actor Paul Sorvino. Among her other film credits are Beautiful Girls (1996), Mimic (1997), Lulu on the Bridge (1998), and At First Sight (1999).
