Soustrot, Marc (1949- )

French conductor. He studied conducting with Manuel Rosenthal at the Paris Conservatory (1969-76). He won the Rupert Foundation Competition (London 1974), and the Besançon International Competition (1975). He assisted André Previn at the London Symphony Orchestra (1974-76). Between 1976 and 1986 he was deputy, and then director, of the Loire Philharmonic Orchestra. He was artistic director of Nantes Opera (1986-90), where he led Tristan und Isolde and Manon (1989-90). He conducted Les contes d'Hoffmann at the Geneva Opera (1990) and Carmen at the Bregenz Festival.
