Soustrot, Marc (1949– )

French conductor. He studied conducting with Manuel Rosenthal at the Paris Conservatory (1969–76). He won the Rupert Foundation Competition (London 1974), and the Besançon International Competition (1975). He assisted André Previn at the London Symphony Orchestra (1974–76). Between 1976 and 1986 he was deputy, and then director, of the Loire Philharmonic Orchestra. He was artistic director of Nantes Opera (1986–90), where he led Tristan und Isolde and Manon (1989–90). He conducted Les contes d'Hoffmann at the Geneva Opera (1990) and Carmen at the Bregenz Festival.
