South Milwaukee

City in southeastern Wisconsin, on Lake Michigan, 14 km/9 mi south of Milwaukee; population (1990) 21,000. It produces malleable castings, electrical appliances, and excavating and garden machinery. Factories also manufacture tiles, wood, metal, plastic, and leather articles. The Wisconsin Spectacle of Music is held here each year in July.

Settled in 1835 as Oak Creek, the city has been industrialized since 1891.
