Sowerby Bridge

Town in West Yorkshire, England, 6 km/4 mi southwest of Halifax on the River Calder; population (2001) 9,950. There are engineering and chemical works, and products include woollen and cotton goods, and carpets.

The preindustrial town of Sowerby, which was important in the woollen trade, is located on higher ground between the rivers Calder and Ryburn.
