Sparwood

District municipality in southeastern British Columbia, Canada, in the Rocky Mountains, 10 km/6 mi northwest of Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, and 77 km/48 mi north of the Montana border; population (1991) 4,200. It is the site of the largest soft coalmining operation in Canada.

Some 4,000 people on Sunday attended the funeral of eight snowmobile enthusiasts who died last week near the small town of Sparwood in western Canada after a series of avalanches.
The first avalanche buried a group of seven riders on Sunday afternoon, while theywere resting at the foot of a hill, said David Wilks, mayor of Sparwood, home to all 11 men.
The coal company and the people of Sparwood did not want the Terex Titan to go to the scrap pile.
