extraordinary general meeting

General meeting held by company separate from the annual general meeting. EGMs may be called by directors, or by shareholders with a sufficiently large shareholding. Departing auditors also have the right to call an EGM. Examples of matters dealt with at EGMs include approving a rights issue or voting on the appointment of directors.

I RECENTLY attended a special general meeting at St Patrick's Catholic Club, I am a life member and was interested to know the reasons for the meeting as for the first time in years the club is moving forward with some hard-working committee members.
The union called a special general meeting (SGM) of its 245 clubs on Thursday in the hope of dampening calls for an EGM.
