Spencer County

County in southwestern Indiana; area 1,036 sq km/400 sq mi; population (1990) 19,500. Its capital is Rockport. The Ohio River forms its southern border. Most of the county is agricultural, producing grain, livestock, and poultry. Oil wells and natural gas deposits are found in the south, near Rockport, which is the chief manufacturing centre

Lincoln City, in the north, is the site of the 81-ha/200-acre Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, the farm on which Nancy Hanks Lincoln, the mother of Abraham Lincoln, is buried.
