Spies, Claudio (1925- )

Chilean-born US composer. He moved to the USA in 1942 and studied at the New England Conservatory and with Fine and Piston at Harvard. He was appointed Professor of Music at Princeton in 1970. He has written extensively on Stravinsky and conducted the first performance of an early version of The Wedding.

Orchestral and chamber with voice

Music for a Ballet for orchestra (1955), Il Cantico del frate Sole for baritone and orchestra (1958), Tempi for 14 instruments (1962), seven Enzensberglieder for baritone and ensemble (1972).
