Spiess, Ludovic (1938– )

Romanian tenor. He studied in Bucharest and Milan, and initially sang in operetta. In 1967 he sang Dmitri in Boris Godunov, at the Salzburg Festival, under Karajan. The following year he was heard as Radames in Zurich, and as Dalibor in Vienna. He made his New York debut at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1971, and made his first London appearance in 1973 at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Radames. He has sung Calaf, Don José, Florestan, and Lohengrin in Europe and South America.
