The soprano range has approximately the compass shown, but is often extended further in florid operatic arias requiring dexterity.

Highest range of the female voice, from around D4 (the D above middle C) to A6. Some operatic roles require the extended upper range of a coloratura soprano, reaching to around F6, for example Kiri Te Kanawa. It is also used before the name of an instrument that sounds in the same range as the soprano voice.
