Spirit of England, The

Three cantatas for soprano solo, chorus, and orchestra by Elgar, Op. 80, The Fourth of August, To Women, and For the Fallen (poems by Laurence Binyon). Composed 1916–17, nos. 1 and 2 were performed at London on 7 May 1916, and the cantatas were performed in complete form on 24 November 1917.
