Spiro, Melford Elliot

Spiro, Melford Elliot (1920- )

US cultural anthropologist. He taught at Washington University (St Louis), the University of Connecticut, and Chicago before becoming chairman of the anthropology department at the University of California: San Diego, in 1968. His publications include Kibbutz: Venture in Utopia (1955) and Kinship and Marriage in Burma (1977).

He was born in Cleveland. He was educated at the University of Minnesota and Northwestern.
