Springfield rifle

US Army service rifle, adopted in 1903 and retained in service until the 1940s.

Of 0.30 in calibre, it used a Mauser bolt mechanism and five-shot magazine. The name came from the Springfield, Massachusetts, arsenal where it was designed and originally manufactured.
