Sproul, Allan (1896-1978)

US banker. An authority on the world monetary system, he was president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the largest of the 12 in the Federal Reserve system, 1941-56.

He was born in San Francisco. The son of a Scottish immigrant, he graduated from the University of California in 1919 and joined the Federal Reserve banking system the following year.
