Seringapatam

Town in Karnataka, India, on an island in the Cauvery River. It was the capital of Mysore state 1610–1799, when it was taken from the sultan of Mysore, Tipu Sahib, by the British general Charles Cornwallis.

Until 1610, Mysore remained in the center of the Wodeyar administration until the time the Vijayanagara governor was ousted by Raja Wodeyar along Srirangapatna, making it his capital.
