St Charles County

County in east-central Missouri, bounded to the south by the Missouri River and to the east by the Mississippi River, which meet at the county's eastern tip; area 1,445 sq km/558 sq mi; population (1990) 212,900. Its capital is St Charles. It is one of Missouri's five original counties. From the 1970s to the 1990s suburban growth around St Louis made it one of the fastest-growing counties in the USA.

The rest of the region is richly agricultural, with corn, wheat, and oats cultivation and livestock rearing.
