St John Passion

Bach's setting of the Passion narrative as told in St John's Gospel, for soloists, chorus, and orchestra. With interpolated texts by the German poet Brockes and chorales, the oratorio was first performed in the church of St Nicholas, Leipzig, on 7 April 1724. A second version was given at the church of St Thomas, Leipzig, on 30 March 1725.
