St Johns

River in Florida; length 456 km/285 mi. Rising in Brevard County in east Florida, it flows north and at Jacksonville (24 km/15 mi from its mouth) turns east before reaching the Atlantic Ocean. It forms several large lakes. Much of the surrounding area consists of swamp, pine groves, or farmland. The river is used for commercial and recreational boats.
