St Tammany Parish

Parish in southeastern Louisiana, bounded to the east by the Pearl River and Mississippi, and to the south by Lake Pontchartrain; area 2,261 sq km/873 sq mi; population (1990) 144,500. Its capital is Covington. Industry is centred in Slidell. The parish has a number of resorts and a growing residential and retired population, augmenting its older farming, lumbering, and maritime economy.
