Stacpoole, Henry de Vere (1863-1951)

Irish physician and writer. Stacpoole was born in Kingstown (modern Dun Laoghaire), and educated at Malvern College and St George's and St Mary's hospitals in London. He made several voyages as a ship's doctor, reflecting his experience in more than 50 popular novels, including The Blue Lagoon 1909, The Pearl Fishers 1915, and Green Coral 1935. He also wrote two volumes of autobiography, Men 1942, and Mice 1945.
