Stade, Frederica von (1945- )

US mezzo-soprano. She studied in New York, where she made her Metropolitan Opera House debut in 1970; her repertory there included Zerlina, Adalgisa, Idamante, and Octavian. She sang Cherubino on her Glyndebourne (1973) and Salzburg (1974) debuts, and returned to Glyndebourne in 1979, as Monteverdi's Penelope. She appeared at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, as Rosina (1965) and as Elena in La donna del lago (1985). Other roles included Cenerentola, Sextus, Dorabella, Nina in Pasatieri's The Seagull (first performance, Houston, 1974), and Tina in Argento's The Aspern Papers (first performance, Dallas, 1988). She sang Rosina at the Metropolitan Opera House, in 1992.
