Staden, Sigmund Gottlieb (or Theophilus) (1607-1655)

German organist, violist and composer, son of Johann Staden. He was a pupil of his father, then of Jacob Baumann at Augsburg, 1620. He studied the viola bastarda with Walter Rowe in Berlin, 1626. In 1627 he became town musician at Nuremberg, and in 1634 organist of St Lorenz's Church, whose organist, Valentin Dretzel, succeeded his father at St Sebald's. In 1636 he published a book on singing.

opera (1644); hymn tunes for four voices; containing hymn-tunes for four voices with thorough-bass for domestic use (1644-48); songs with figured bass.
