Stadtman, Earl R(eece) (1919– )

US biochemist. An authority on enzyme chemistry, he investigated vitamin B₁₂ function (with wife and collaborator Thressa Stadtman), membrane transport, protein modification in aging, and oxygen toxicity.

He was born in Carrizozo, New Mexico. He was a research assistant at the University of California 1943–49, and a fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital 1949–50, before becoming a biochemist and physiologist at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, (Bethesda, Maryland) in 1950.
