Stadtman, Earl R(eece) (1919- )

US biochemist. An authority on enzyme chemistry, he investigated vitamin B12 function (with wife and collaborator Thressa Stadtman), membrane transport, protein modification in aging, and oxygen toxicity.

He was born in Carrizozo, New Mexico. He was a research assistant at the University of California 1943-49, and a fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital 1949-50, before becoming a biochemist and physiologist at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, (Bethesda, Maryland) in 1950.
