Stahlman, Sylvia (1929– )

US soprano. She studied at the Juilliard School, New York. From 1951 she sang at the Monnaie, Brussels, making her debut as Elvira in I Puritani. She sang further as Lucia and Meyerbeer's Dinorah, and between 1954 and 1972 was a member of the Frankfurt Opera. She sang Blondchen with the New York City Opera (1956), and appeared at Glyndebourne, as Mozart's Ilia (1959). She sang in the first US performance of Strauss's Daphne at Santa Fe (1964), and in 1967 appeared at Aix-en-Provence.
