Stalybridge

Town in the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester, England, 12 km/7 mi northeast of Stockport; population (2001) 22,200. Its industries include electrical engineering, metallurgy, and the manufacture of paper, rubber, and plastics. Stalybridge was originally a cotton town (a cotton mill was built here in 1776).
