Standage, Simon

Standage, Simon (1941– )

English violinist. He studied at Cambridge and in New York. He joined the London Symphony Orchestra in 1969, and became sub-leader of the English Chamber Orchestra. From 1973 he has led the English Concert, under Trevor Pinnock, and the City of London Sinfonia, under Richard Hickox. He founded the Salomon String Quartet in 1981, which performs with authentic instruments. From 1983 he was a teacher of baroque violin at the Royal Academy of Music, London, and he founded the Collegium Musicum Philharmonic Orchestra, in 1990.
