Chevron Corporation

One of the largest integrated energy companies in the world, engaged in oil and gas exploration, production, refining, and transportation, as well as petrochemicals manufacturing and power generation. Formerly known as Standard Oil Company of California, it operates in about 180 countries.

In 2000 Chevron bought another US oil company, Texaco, in a $37 billion stock deal. Initially called Chevron Texaco, the company dropped Texaco from its title in 2005 (the year that it also acquired Unocal Corporation, an independent oil and gas exploration and production company with assets in the Asia-Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, and Caspian regions). In 2006 Chevron produced 2.67 million barrels of oil-equivalent per day, had a global refining capacity of more than 2 million barrels per day, had approximately 25,800 retail outlets in nearly 75 countries, and had interests in 15 power-generating facilities in the USA and Asia.
