Stanislavsky, Konstantin Sergeivich Alekseyev (1863-1938)

Russian actor, director, and teacher of acting. He rejected the declamatory style of acting in favour of a more realistic approach, concentrating on the psychological basis for the development of character. The Actors Studio is based on his methods. As a director, he is acclaimed for his productions of the great plays of Chekhov.
