A larkspur Delphinium scaposum from the deserts of Arizona, USA. With the exception of a few African species, the delphiniums are natives of northern temperate regions.

Any of a group of plants containing about 250 species, including the butterfly or Chinese delphinium (Delphinium grandiflorum), an Asian form and one of the ancestors of the garden delphinium. Most species have blue, purple, or white flowers on a long spike. (Genus Delphinium, family Ranunculaceae.)
